NTSU society and radio station, Fly FM, has been announced as one of the six winners of the British Council’s The Selector student radio competition.

Earlier this year, student radio stations from across the UK were offered the chance to produce and present their win version of the British Council’s weekly radio show, The Selector. The competition aims to provide an invaluable opportunity for the students to develop their radio production and presenting skills, and to make an all-important break into the radio industry.

Hosted by DJ and presenter Goldierocks, The Selector presenters an overview of all that is exciting and fresh British music, and is syndicated on FM stations in 39 countries around the world including Mexico, Columbia, Israel, Poland, Malawi, Hungry, Indonesia, Bulgaria and China, with an audience estimated to be in excess of 3 million listeners.

From a slew of applications from student radio stations across the UK, Jack Saunders from Nottingham Trent University’s very own Fly FM was chosen to host the show. Jack who is in his third year at Trent studying Broadcast Journalism, said of his win: “Since starting Fly FM I’ve developed my music taste and found that music radio is what I’m passionate about!”

“New music is something I’m really keen about and now I have the platform to show case emerging British talent to a big audience. It’s massively exciting for me!”

Launched in 2001, The Selector is an international showcase for the best new music the UK has to offer, a weekly program that covers all styles of music, from indie, dubstep, folk, grime, electro and everything in between. The show features interview, mixes and exclusive live sessions from British artists such as Misty Miller, British Sea Power, Tribes, Jessie Ware and Egyptian Hip Hop; as well as exclusive mixes from DJs such as Om Unit, Swindle, Mount Kimbie and Andrew Weatherhall.

Fly FM’s show will have a specific focus on new music from the Midlands with the first show featuring Clubs, Weirds, Ady Sulieman and Ashmore. There will also be a live session from OneGirlOneBoy.
