The annual NTSU Awards ceremony was held at The Point, Clifton, last week to celebrate this year's student successes. The awards provide recognition to those students who have made significant contributions to SU activities throughout the the academic year. Nominees are put forward by you, the students of NTU, and the winners for each category are chosen by the awards committe, who have worked closely with the nominees over the course of the year.

The awards culminate in a presentation evening for shortlisted nominees and invited guests including NTU Vice Chancellor Professor Neil Gorman and feature live entertainment from our very own societies.

This year's winner of the main accolade, the Ian King Volunteer of the Year award, was Nicola Todd (pictured with NTSU President Jonny Ellison and Becky King), who has been involved with the Union since the start of her studies at NTU. She first became involved in NTSU Volunteering by helping to organise many community projects before taking part in one of RAG's Big Climbs in her second year, scaling Mount Kilimanjaro and raising nearly £3,000 for Childreach International.

As a fantastic participant and natural leader, she was selected to lead a team for a new expedition to The Great Wall of China the following year, signing up over 40 participants to take part. Despite being in the final year of her degree this year,Nicola has still been an active member of the RAG committee as well as providing an incredible level of support for fellow participants and other team-leaders for this summer’s expedition.

The strength of our relationship with the charity Childreach International is also due to the hard work and effort she has put in during her involvement with the Union. Nicola has been an exceptional Volunteer over the past four years and all of the NTSU Executive and Union staff would like to thank her for all her hard work.
