Lectures should be about learning, considering the viewpoints and theories of the academics cited by your tutor, and questioning their merits and their assumptions.
However, for too many students lectures are an exercise in short-hand. Frantically copying down notes from PowerPoint slides or over head projections does not allow sufficient time to absorb what is being taught.
If all lecture notes were on NOW before the lectures were given then there would be no need for such secretarial dexterity in the Lecture Theatre, and notes of genuine insight could be added to the printed framework.
The Students Union will be providing a lobbying pack for Course Representatives early in the Autumn Term
The SU will also be submitting a paper to the Academic Board of the University in an attempt to make it mandatory for all Lecture Notes to be on NOW before they are given.
