► Student Officer Elections Rules

Rules and regulations

It is NTSU's duty to make sure that all elections are carried out fairly and consistently, so that we can ensure that you, the students of Trent, have elected those individuals whom you feel truly represent you in the next academic year. To make sure this happens, we do have to enforce some fairly strict rules and procedures that all candidates and their campaigns/campaigners must abide by at all times during the elections process.

Everything is spelt out in the Democratic Processes Document, which we strongly advise all candidates/campaigners to read very thoroughly. Please bear in mind that any activity taken by candidates/campaigners that unfairly influence the elections process can, in some cases, result in immediate disqualification by the Elections Committee.

The Points System

We want you to be free to come up with some great campaigning ideas. However, to keep things as fair as possible, the resources you can use for your campaign are limited by a points system.

For the student officer elections, every candidate has 40 points to spend on their campaigns. Most items that you use to promote your campaign will cost a certain number of points.

When you submit your campaign plan, the Elections Committee will make sure that you haven’t used over 40 points. To help you out, they have already assigned a value to a few common campaigning items:
