10 Environmental tips for life outside NTU
1. Central Heating - Turn your thermostat down to between 18°C and 22°C. Turning it down by 1% can save as much as 10% from fuel bills!
2. Transport - Driving at an appropriate speed reduces CO² emissions.
3. Cooking - Keep heat on the base of the saucepan, don't let flames lick the sides of the pan.
4. Fridges & Freezers - Door seals should be able to grip a piece of paper tightly.
5. Appliances - Don't put furniture in front of radiators. Try fitting shelves above them, as this deflects heat into the middle of the room.
6. Food – When buying seafood look for the blue logo of the Marine Stewardship Council. The MSC promote sustainable fishing and preserve marine environments across the globe.
7. Water - A washing machine can use up to 95 litres water per cycle. Using a full load uses less energy, water and costs less overall than washing half loads.
