The Film Society is for anyone remotely interested in film, ranging from arty foreign films, to Hollywood blockbusters and niche animated gems. We welcome anyone, whether studying the arts or not, and regardless of taste in films. We will have weekly screenings, with films recommended by members with plenty of opportunity to get involved in the democratic selection process. Our films will be shown in a lecture hall in the city campus, with clear directions so that everyone can find us easily. Last academic year we have seen a range of films, including old classics such as Annie Hall and The Graduate, to modern cultural phenomena like Trainspotting and Old Boy. We also have regular socials, ranging from informal get-togethers to trips out of the city. For example, past events have included a trip to an art deco cinema, a theme park, friendly socials at members' homes and cocktail evenings as well as the regular opportunity for drinks and discussions after the film showings. We aim to give our members value for money, subsidising trips and socials in any way we can. We aim to be inclusive and any member is more than welcome to stand for a committee post, imagine how good an addition it would make to your CV!
