► Areas to Live

This page lists popular areas around the city which students generally base themselves in, as well as options for students studying at Clifton and Brackenhurst. Clifton and Brack students may also wish to live in or around the city centre. The question that you have to ask yourselves as a Clifton or Brackenhurst student is do you want to travel from the city to lectures and seminars or do you want to travel into the city for nights out, cinema or shopping? The advantage of living in the city centre is that these services are on your doorstep, the disadvantage is being further away from on-campus facilities.

In and around City Centre

Students studying at the city campus do not need to look very far as there is an abundance of student accommodation on the University’s doorstep.

Arboretum

  • Distance to Uni: 5-10 mins walk to city campus.
  • Shops and Amenities: a few corner shops are dotted around, a number of takeaways and stores on Alfreton Road and Mansfield Road – not forgetting SU Express!! Asda in Hyson Green and the Victoria Centre is also a 5 or 10 minute walk away.
  • Taxi to the Union: £3, very close – if walking to and from make sure you walk with friends.
  • Overall: A very convenient area to live for Uni and the City Centre.

Forest Fields & Hyson Green

  • Distance to Uni: 15-20 minutes walk, also not far from the Tram line which would mean 5 mins into Uni.
  • Shops and Amenities: Asda is right on the doorstep, and a number of corner shops and takeaways around.
  • Taxi to the Union: £5-£7 max
  • Overall: Convenient for Uni and very good for Asda. Like any area around the City Centre do not walk around by yourself, try to walk in groups where possible.
