Here’s a few reasons why we still need the black students campaign;
- Research by the DfES found that Black students are less likely to get a first class degree when all other factors are equal. Discrimination is rife in education.
- Within 6 months of graduation Black people are 3 times more likely to be unemployed than white graduates.
- The number of pupils excluded on the grounds of racist bullying has risen by 29% since 2004.
- There are only 2 Black women MPs in Parliament and 13 men.
- African-Caribbean people are 14 times more likely and Asians 6 times more likely, to be stopped and searched by the police than white people.
Clearly there’s still work to be done.
