The awards are designed to celebrate the work of exceptional staff across NTU who work tirelessly to improve the student experience, provide excellent teaching and develop students to their full potential and nominations for this year’s awards are now open.

You can nominate staff members in the following categories:

Has a member of University staff ever gone above and beyond to support your personal wellbeing? Perhaps you have a tutor who consistently recognises student welfare as a key priority?  

For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee aids the transition process into University life.
  • The nominee demonstrates an awareness of the link between student welfare and academic performance.
  • The nominee is aware of the appropriate referral processes and uses them accordingly.
  • The nominee demonstrates flexibility, supporting and meeting with students outside of the academic timetable if needed.
  • The nominee understands the importance of community in a University environment.

Is there a member of staff at the University who has contributed significantly to your student experience? This is an award for all those staff who are not involved in teaching but have the potential to positively affect your time at NTU. This could be anyone from the administrators in your department to the technicians in your lab.

For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee may have assisted in the development of student study skills.
  • The nominee has positively impacted students' time at NTU, contributing to their overall experience.
  • The nominee develops good relationships with students, recognising their individual needs.
  • The nominee supports opportunities for students and enhances their potential outside of the classroom.

Have you ever had a lecturer whose passion for their subject has inspired your continual motivation in your work? Is there a seminar that you always look forward to, knowing that your tutor will provoke a stimulating conversation?

For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee is approachable and responsive to students and makes them feel valued for their work and contributions.
  • The nominee has enthusiasm for their subject area and inspires this within their students.
  • The nominee is always engaging, informative and knowledgeable, and encourages intellectual development.
  • The nominee provides useful and prompt feedback to students, allowing them to continually better themselves.
  • The nominee encourages students to feel part of an academic community.

Do you have a tutor that encourages you to consider your work from a variety of different international perspectives? Is there a member of University staff who works to promote the value of inter-cultural relationships?

For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee may have arranged guest lecturers from a variety of cultures and nationalities.
  • The nominee will promote a global approach to learning, perhaps via comparative studies between cultures.
  • The nominee may have launched a project that promotes international values.
  • The nominee recognises the needs of individual international students.

Do you have a seminar which you always leave with new and unexpected perspectives? Do you have a lecturer who uses multiple creative approaches to aid your learning?

For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee will use feedback to adapt their teaching methods and be committed to continually improving their work.
  • The nominee will make use of a range of different teaching approaches, including digital innovation.
  • The nominee will be imaginative and creative in their teaching, inspiring students to do the same in their work.
  • The nominee will always be aware of current developments both in their field and in mainstream culture and will apply these in their teaching.
  • The nominee will creatively explore ideas of social responsibility, social justice and sustainable living within their curriculum.

Do you have a research supervisor who is exceptionally supportive of your studies? Do they offer constant encouragement and motivation regarding your research? This is an award for staff members who support postgraduate research projects. For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee will offer a holistic approach to supporting their students in both their academic and personal life.
  • The nominee is encouraging but always challenges their students to contribute something substantial and original to their academic field.
  • The nominee demonstrates passion for the area of study.
  • The nominee demonstrates flexibility and supports their students to navigate the challenges of a postgraduate degree.

Do you have a PhD student who leads your seminar group, providing original ideas and perspectives on your course? Do they bring enthusiasm to their field of study? This is an award for PhD students who teach undergraduates students.

For this award, we will consider, but not be limited to, the following criteria:

  • The nominee will apply their own original research and ideas to their teaching.
  • The nominee is approachable and responsive to students and makes them feel valued for their work and contributions.
  • The nominee has enthusiasm for their subject area and inspires this within their students.
  • The nominee is always engaging, informative and knowledgeable, and encourages intellectual development.
  • The nominee provides useful and prompt feedback to students, allowing them to continually better themselves.
  • The nominee bridges the gap between staff and student academic communities.
