What I'm working on

  • Secured millions of pounds in rent refunds for students in UPP and University-owned halls by writing to the University and private providers.
  • Lobbied the University for a COVID Hardship fund to support all NTU students and secured a boost of over £500,000 to support students impacted by the pandemic.
  • Secured free car parking and parking permit refunds for Students at Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses, saving them over £40,000.
  • Created a Students Deserve Better Campaign in collaboration with the other officers which brings together all the work we’re doing on students’ behalf on housing, welfare, education and more. The campaign has saved students millions in rent, increased access to study space and significantly increased hardship funding.
  • Successfully secured a price freeze on student bus passes. Also helped implement new 50 and 100 pass option that is more affordable saving students £60 and £135 Additionally, buses are running more frequently meaning no queues and more space to ensure COVID-secure travel.
  • Lobbied the government and opposition on behalf of NTU students, pushing for more support on housing, mental health and hardship funding. Work has included writing to members of parliament and representing NTSU at a panel featuring the member of parliament for Nottingham East MP
  • Despite major reductions in available study space due to COVID-19 I have successfully worked to allow for multiple library bookings, increased unrestricted study space and ensured NTSU spaces are available for you to use as self-directed study space, giving every student a suitable study space on campus.
  • Successfully brought to life an NTSU Big Idea to introduce a pride progress rainbow road at Brackenhurst campus and a flag on City campus to support our LGBTQ+ Students.
  • Led on an incredibly successful Freshers’ Week. Highlights included one of the only in-person COVID-Secure Freshers’ Fairs in the UK and 100s of amazing in-person COVID-Secure entertainment events. Finally, I achieved another manifesto point with free tops for Freshers’ Team members and overhauled training.
  • Led on the design and distribution of the NTSU Student Experience Survey. It was completed by over 700 students and has led to the major changes made by NTU including Increased wellbeing and welfare support, more in-person community activities, and extended study space openings.
  • Led on the design and creation of our term two #TellTrent survey and student focus groups designed to give students the chance to share feedback on their academic experience this year.
  • Organised and hosted a live Student Q&A on assessments in January 2021 with NTU school deans and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Education to allow students to ask important questions on assessments.
  • Planned, and delivered a national Virtual Sustainability Climate Summit in collaboration with NTU Sustainability.
  • Successfully worked to introduce unrestricted (no booking required) printing access in Boots Library meaning students can turn up and print without needing a three-hour booking.
  • I am organising a Student Q&A with senior NTU staff to give students the chance to ask questions on mental health support, tuition fees, accommodation and everything else student experience related. This event is due to take place in late February.
  • Continuing to represent and fight for our international students including securing an increase in hardship funding and writing to government ministers on extending the EU settlement scheme, fees and welfare support. Additionally, I am fighting to secure a freeze in fees for EU students.
  • Working with VP Education to ensure NTU are providing a high-quality teaching and learning experience for students including the library offering. Work so far has included extending study bookings, unrestricted space, work to increase timetabled sessions and work towards supporting students with assessments in term two and three.
  • Working with the Exec team and staff on Black History Month and a year-round ‘Black Futures’ campaign to celebrate and support our Black students.
  • Supporting our VP Community and Welfare on student mental health by taking part in Movember, and providing support for students who have been isolating and feeling lonely this year with pastoral support in our study spaces and online.
  • Working on numerous projects around social mobility to give all students the best chance at success at a time when COVID-19 may have a negative impact on attainment. Work includes: Working with the Office for Students on access and participation plans and supporting NTU by reviewing success for all plans. Finally, I am leading NTSU’s work on the Race Equality Charter.
  • Engaged in productive conversations with NTU around an improved, more affordable offering for graduating students from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts. This work is on-going with COVID restrictions continually impacting planning.
  • Working with the Exec including VP Sport to give sports club members fair refunds on membership, VP Education on successfully increasing library bookings and study space and academic safeguards, VP opportunities on society events and VP Community and welfare with Movember, and mental health campaigns.
  • I am also now a trained Consent Facilitator and can help to support our students with sessions on this.
