Our website just got more accessible

Good news: NTSU now provides an inclusive online experience so website visitors can access our online content and services barrier-free.

Here at NTSU, we strive to promote, embed, and champion equality, diversity, and inclusion as crucial parts of our values. We pride ourselves on having a positive, proactive, and informed attitude to accessibility and strive to provide the best possible experience on-campus and online for all our members.

We have recently installed an accessibility toolbar on our website, courtesy of Recite Me. You can use its features by clicking the Accessibility Tools button at the top of our website.

The toolbar features 35 text-to-speech and styling options, including a screen-reading feature with live translation that boasts over 100 languages. You can also choose between different fonts and select the right text size for you.

This new functionality supports the 20% of the population who may encounter barriers when exploring our website due to a disability, learning difficulty, visually impartment, or if English is their second language.

Conor Naughton, NTSU President commented, "We continuously review our processes and make improvements to our physical and digital facilities to allow for better inclusivity, and I'm proud to have led the work to have the ReciteMe toolbar included on our website.

This forms part of my wider work as President to improve our accessibility offering, including a new webpage dedicated to our on-campus and online offer to students with accessibility requirements."

The internet can be intimidating for people with access barriers. Those lacking the tools to adequately understand or communicate are at a significant disadvantage. This tool will allow everyone who uses our website to have an inclusive online experience when engaging with NTSU.

We appreciate that there is always more to be achieved to ensure a truly accessible and equitable online and on-campus offer for all students. Therefore, if there is something you think could be improved or you have any issues, please reach out to us in person, through our socials or via email.
