NTSU’s Knitting Society and the NTU Big Knitters staff group joined forces last year on a charity project for the elderly community and they’ve just reached their target!

Staff and students have been meeting regularly to knit hats for Innocent’s Big Knit project which raises money for Age UK and they recently made it to their goal of 1000 hats. Each of the hats knitted will go on top of special edition smoothie bottles. For every one sold, Innocent will donate 25p to the charity which helps combat loneliness among the elderly.

President of Knit Soc, Caitlin Smith, said: “Working on the Innocent Smoothie Hat Project in collaboration with NTU Big Knitters has been really fun. It is especially nice to know we are helping Innocent raise funds for Age UK which is a really good cause.”

Cen Mustafa, a member of NTU Big Knitters, added: “The Big Knit project has been such a good example of how we like to do things differently at NTU – staff and students working together for the greater good of the community. This is the second time that we have supported the project and it’s been a lot of fun. NTU Knit Soc are a great group to work with – I’ve loved their energy and seeing how proactive they are in supporting each other. It’s been a pleasure to work with them.”

A huge congratulations to both Knit Soc and NTU Big Knitters on their achievement! If you’re interested in giving back and making a difference in your community, check out our volunteering opportunities.
