The use of 'Airpods' in open places on university premises I believe adds to a growing divide between the 'haves' and the 'have-nots' in this community to such an extent that I feel i must call it out. I wish for the university to enforce a rule that all earphones are wired and preferably not designed by apple, however if you only have access to wired Apple earphones then you can be given a pass, otherwise you must pick another company such as samsung, sony etc. I believe this will have a profound affect on those who aren't cool enough to own Apple products and hence make them feel less like an underclass. Hopefully my peers will recognise this issue and understand its importance so that no person feels left out at this university.

“Oi mate you got a loicense for those ‘edphones” This would infringe on students’ liberty and waste resources on passes and checks which are far greater harms than those prevented by non-Apple users seeing other people wear AirPods. This line of thinking is intolerant of others’ preferences and would cause more harm than good. We should encourage tolerance and individual liberty as a university even if this means everyone doing the same thing. The distinction is one is voluntary conformity and the other is involuntary.
