Following work done by your VP Community & Welfare and a successful trial year, NTU have now partnered with yourguarantor to provide a UK based guarantor for students who need it. This can be accessed by talking to NTSU's Information and Advice Service, or through NTU's Student Support.

Facts

- If International students do not have a guarantor, then they have to pay their entire year worth of rent upfront.

- This leads to a huge amount of money leaving students account so it becomes very difficult.

- As well as this, trying to find housing when you do not have a guarentor is difficult as there is a lack of trust between landlords and tennants.

Impacts

- This means that it is incredibly difficult to find affordable housing.

- It also means that some International students are very tight for money throughout their time at university.

- This can also affect mental health and definitely can affect individuals studies.

Reacts

- I propose that the SU should look into what other universities have done. The biggest impact around the country is the 'University as Guarantor' scheme with guidlines set up by NUS.

- The SU needs to lobby the university to do this so that they can look after the large number of International Students that they have.

This would also help those from a lower income background! Neither of my parents and family earned enough to be a guarantor which meant I couldnt find cheap housing.

Hi! We now have a University as Guarantor scheme in place at NTU. If you would like some more information about this, please email me at liv.broad@su.ntu.ac.uk :)
