NTU as many other large bodies with office spaces, make sure of a fairly standardised environment,
Lighting especially can have a huge impact on study, in terms of focus, eye strain, comfort and over all mood.
NTU seems to make use primarily of harsh white lights and fluoresent bulbs, though these are useful for clear vision they are less than optimal for many peoples study.
Harsh light can be overwhelming for many people and can be very draining to occupy long periods of time in.
However there are very few study spaces in either Boots or Clifton libary where areas can have adjusted lighting, even many of the study rooms only have white lights that can be on or off.
Recently I noticed a singular lamp with a warm yellow light in the Boots libary (which has since ceased to work) and this created a space I noticed people seemed to regularly occupy including myself.
I beleive more varied work space options across the libaries and work spaces would be benefical espeically when supported by more regualar plug sockets and comfortable seating.
thank you
