Thank you for your Big Idea. It was discussed on the 8th June 2021, where student council decided not to proceed with it. There is already support for students sitting exams available through the library, and assesments are not exclusively exam based, with NTU looking in particular at the future of assement as part of its strategy.
I think a petition on how examinations are to be carried out for students at university due to covid would be reasonable. For example, students who completed year 1 and 2 exams during the peak of Covid had the opportunity to do open book with extended time limits. Whilst this can be beneficial, they have also missed out on the experience of in person exams. I believe having your 'first' in person exams for 3rd year in an examination centre would certainly affect your grade with not having the experience. I believe it should be petitioned that, if starting or mid way through uni when covid struck and learning / exams were conducted at home, the remainder of your exams should also be at home. For example, my 1st and 2nd year exams were open book, at home with a time limit of 48 hours. I personally feel like I'm going to struggle for 3rd year exams with not having official exam experience, less time and closed book. 3rd year are also the most important grades.
