Risk Assessments are about minimising potential danger and putting measures in place to avoid foreseeable risks. You have a duty of care towards your members and those attending your events, and if an incident happens they show that you did everything you could to make an activity safe.

You should develop an annual risk assessment that includes all the general and specific risks associated with your society’s events and activities. This needs to be attached to every Student Group Activity Booking Form. You will need to complete additional risk assessments for events this does not cover using the provided templates. For the exact details of completing a risk assessment and calculating risks please look at the Risk Assessment Guide. 

If one of your members has an accident or near miss at one of your events, you’ll need to fill in this form. It helps us to identify any potential hazards and minimise the risk of them becoming bigger problems in the future. 

When providing refreshments, societies have a few options to ensure that this is done safely:

• You can get a food hygiene certificate which will let you make and serve your own food at society events. You can go through this process by contacting our health and safety department
• You can pay for NTU or NTSU catering
• If it is something we cannot cater for, you can use an external caterer. you will need to get a Food Hygiene Certificate, Public Liability Insurance (PLI) and event plan from the external caterer in advance of your event.
