PG(R) Writing Retreat - overnight stay

After months of planning, we've finally managed to offer this 4 nights writing retreat for our members :)

This is going to be entirely free thanks to the grants received from the NTSU and NTU Doctoral School. Please, don't take this as an excuse to be non-committal and let us know if after booking a place anything changes as we will have a waiting list.

A ticket is inclusive of:

  • Minibus transport from Nottingham city centre and back
  • 4 nights stay at the farm linked below
  • 3 full days of structured writing with shared accountability and goal setting (detailed schedule coming soon)
  • Food and (soft/hot) drinks for the full stay (we'll cook together - please state any dietary requirements)

We are going to stay here: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/701120032842637855?source_impression_id=p3_1713866145_PIbZXJR5X4VCnR46

As the check-out on the last day is at 10 AM, there is a possibility to stop at Ashby Castle (https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/ashby-de-la-zouch-castle/) on the way back if the majority so chooses. This would be paid on the door individually. Tickets are £5.90 for students if booked in advance (even the same day in the morning) or £7.20 if paid on the spot. I can also see that membership is £3.50 monthly for students and then entrance is free, so that might be a cheaper option too (just need to check if there's any caveat). Please state your preference when booking.

Also note that places are limited, and availability depends on people's willingness to share. I'll explain:

The venue has 5 rooms: 2 king-sized bed rooms, 1 double bed room, a twin beds room, and 1 single bed room. King-sized beds (for those not familiar with the sizes - esp. international students) are very big double beds that could potentially allow for two people sleeping comfortably even with a pillow to divide in the middle (please look at the venue's photos). However, we don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, and we want to account for individual needs as well. Therefore we'll offer an assured confirmed number of 6 places (one per bed), and people booking after will go in the waiting list. If the 6 people that booked first are willing to share their bed (specifying their requirements for it - e.g. gender, friends etc.), there can be up to 9 places to stay overnight. We'll also consider offering people (in the waiting list or otherwise) to come writing with their own means during the day if there is requests for it and if the hosts allows it. We need to know the names in advance for insurance though! No later than the day before please!
There is one room with a single bed in one single room which might guarantee more privacy. If you feel comfortable stating so, let us know of any disability or need for a destressing space that would justify giving you the priority to a specific room like this one to help you feel more comfortable.

Meeting point is 2PM in front of Boots Library! Please don't be late or you'll delay the whole group. I'll have to do a few checks before departure and fill in some forms.
If you'd like to be my (Rebecca)'s co-pilot (I'll be driving the minibus) and help with Google Maps direction, please specify so in the booking, it'll be greatly appreciated :D

This event is members only! If you cannot see the ticket you might not be a member yet or you might not be logged in (upper right "sign in" botton). If you want to register as a member please go on the society's page: https://www.trentstudents.org/groups/postgraduate-society-8a98/join
