When I visited Trent University on my study exchange, one useful thing they had on campus was item and food donation bins.

A large waste bins were used around the accommodation for students to add any items they didn't want or need any more. Other students could get things out the bins if they found something they wanted. This can be helpful to those disadvantaged students and is a sustainable way of reusing. At the end of the year any items left in these bins at the end of the year, were donated to various charities.

Food donation bins were also placed around accommodation where students could place any unused food products in. These were emptied regularly and donated to homeless charities. This would be a good idea even if it is just implemented at the end of term for moving out.

These ideas are a good way of donating unused and unwanted products to those in need and could help towards a sustainable future.

NTSU welcomes the work Halls of Residence and others in the NTU Community have done to enable donations to those in needs, and will work with those providers who have yet to introduce such methods to do so in the future, including in ensuring that both donations and collections can be done with no risk of covid transmission.
