Plastic pollution is a major issue our oceans are facing. Particularly from single use plastic items such as straws, drinks bottles, food packaging and plastic cutlery.

NTU is regarded as one of the most sustainable universities in the world, however single use plastic is still seen widely available across the whole of NTU, particularly at Brackenhurst. Taking this into account I call for the banning of single use plastic straws in Brack bar and plastic cutlery in the main hall Taste dinner. Additionally, I call for a reduction in the sale of single use plastic items, such as drinks bottles and food packaging, in the NTSU shop and Orangery. The installation of numerous water fountains in the Brack bar, orangery and NTSU shop allowing students to have increased access to water. Finally, every student and staff member with a valid student/staff ID is to receive a refillable bottle for FREE.

This is a big change, however if Brackenhurst can do it then why can’t the rest of the university!

Please also get rid of the non recyclable coffee cups. Even when I would drink in the cafe last year you would get given a one use cup. Nothing wrong with China for having in. Plenty of compostable cups out there now as well as encouraging people to bring re usable cups.
