About the role

NTSU is looking for an enthusiastic, curious, and proactive student (or recent graduate) to join the Marketing, Communications & Digital team. This placement focuses on the front-end development of NTSU’s websites and the delivery of practical digital improvements across the organisation.

You’ll take ownership of day-to-day website updates and help implement digital products that meet organisational needs - while supporting staff with digital systems in a way that’s secure, accessible, and data-protection compliant.

  • Job purpose: front-end development of NTSU websites; research/data collection and implementation of digital products; technical support for systems; improving digital literacy.
  • Working pattern: 37.5 hours/week, worked flexibly; occasional evening/weekend work; work across NTU campuses as needed.
  • Reports to: Marketing, Communications & Digital Manager.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll maintain and improve NTSU’s websites and digital systems - focusing on usability, accessibility, SEO/GEO, security, automation, and great day-to-day support.

  • Maintain and improve NTSU websites: content, design, feature set, and user data.
  • Front-end work using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and (where needed) APIs.
  • Keep design consistent across the website and implement UX improvements.
  • Build and manage online forms and surveys, handling data appropriately.
  • Support WordPress-based sites (design, admin, troubleshooting).
  • Support internal digital screens and content systems (where applicable).
  • Implement digital products: MS Office apps, ticketing/work requests, project tools, integrations and automation.
  • Provide technical/admin support to staff, including non-technical colleagues.
  • Run SEO + emerging GEO best practice and audits using Analytics/Search tools.
  • Help keep platforms secure: audits, patches, and staff cyber awareness.
  • Explore responsible AI-enabled tools for content, accessibility checks, automation, and insights (within policy).

Platforms & tools you’ll work with

  • WordPress (NTSU websites + other WordPress-based sites)
  • Online forms & surveys (form building + data handling)
  • Google Analytics + Google Search Console (performance + SEO/GEO)
  • SharePoint (internal sites)
  • Moodle training site (support + upgrades)
  • Automation/integrations (APIs, workflow tools, process improvements)

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to know everything on day one — but you do need the confidence to have a go, ask questions, and take ownership. We’re looking for someone proactive, curious, creative, and collaborative.

  • Current or recently graduated NTU student working towards a relevant qualification.
  • Experience working to deadlines.
  • Experience using a website CMS (WordPress experience is ideal).
  • Ability to design, edit and optimise WordPress websites.
  • Front-end skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (and an interest in APIs/automation).
  • Ability to work with others and communicate clearly.
  • Comfortable supporting non-technical staff with technical issues.
  • Awareness of data protection and safe handling of user data.
  • Knowledge/interest in SEO + GEO.
  • Interest in accessibility and inclusive design/testing.
  • Awareness of AI-enabled tools’ opportunities/limits (and ethical/data protection considerations).

Why apply?

You’ll gain real responsibility, practical experience, and the chance to shape live digital products - not just observe from the sidelines.

  • 33 days paid holiday (pro rata), including closure days and bank holidays.
  • Time off in lieu (TOIL) for additional hours worked.
  • 4–6% employer pension contribution.
  • Flexible working options.
  • Travel pass and wage loans.
  • Enhanced sick pay.
  • Annual flu jabs and free eye tests.
  • Training and development opportunities.
  • Enhanced parental leave.
