Name:   Isabel Gregson

Year of study:   Third Year

Course:   Psychology

Club:   NTU Dance

How long have you been involved in your sport and what inspired you to become Club President?

I have been a dancer since 3 years old and have been part of NTU Dance Advanced Team for three years. Having been City Captain on committee last year, it inspired me to run for President at the end of my second year, as I wanted to continue being involved within the club.

Give us a quick overview of what a day in the life of being president is like.

In terms of a day in the life of dance president, you receive a lot of messages regarding classes, venue's and opportunities to get involved in. I generally try to respond to these as quickly as possible and delegate to my committee in order to achieve this.

What's been your proudest achievement so far?

Our annual dance show 'Opus' has been my proudest achievement so far. We had issues regarding the venue and stage, which we managed to overcome and put on an amazing show. Including 200 dancers and special guests FFC. As a club we managed to donate £420 to John Van Geest, and had around 500 spectators.

What's been your toughest challenge?

The toughest challenge this year was keeping both Open and Intermediate Class participation numbers up, after the show. As in previous years dancers who were not in competition routines, or Basketball varsity had little opportunity to perform again. This year we have overcome this, getting involved in more varsity performances and having even more intermediate competition routines!

What aims do you have for the rest of the academic year?

For the rest of the academic year we have our annual competition - NTU Dance Competition, held in the students’ union, competing at Northampton Dance Competition, and Varsity performances (including: Basketball, Futsal, Thai Boxing, Rugby League and American Football).

What's the best thing about being a President?

In my opinion, the best thing about being President of NTU Dance is watching individuals improve and feeling proud of everyone as a team when performing and competing.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about running for President next year?

My advice for anyone who is considering applying to be President would be to be ahead of the game at all times, you need to be super organised and you'll be fine!
