Passionate about sport? Want to shape the sporting experience at NTU? Join the NTU Sports Exec

The Sports Exec is a team of students who decide on what sport at NTU should look like.

Joining the Sports Exec is an excellent progression for students in sport, allowing for you to get more out of your time at uni and build your CV. The time commitment of each role is less than one hour a week. In addition, you'll receive plenty of training and support to ensure you're confident in your role.

All members of Sports Execs will be required to:

  • Meet with the VP Sports and the rest of the Sports Exec team once a fortnight for 1.5 hours to discuss current activities.
  • Help with club AGM training.
  • Be an ambassador for events such Pride
  • Sit on deciding panel for Sports Club of the Week
  • Attend important events such as Varsity and Sports Awards etc.
  • Assist with VP Sports projects throughout the year.
  • Be an approachable point of contact for club presidents/captains.
  • Act as role models for sport at NTU
  • Attend NTU Sport meetings when invited

Characteristics and skills

To apply for Sports Exec roles, you should be a proactive and enthusiastic individual with a passion for student sport at the University. You should also have:

  • Prior experience within NTU Sport (e.g. you have been a sports club member or participated in Play for Fun)

  • A clear interest in the behind the scenes of sport
  • A desire to represent the student sporting community
  • Strong communication, organisational, planning, and delegation skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Teams

 

About the roles

1. Wellbeing Officer 

The Wellbeing Officer supports students’ wellbeing regarding sporting activity at NTU. You will work closely with VP Sport, representing all sports clubs at NTU.  

In this role, you will

• Provide feedback in meetings regarding current wellbeing/welfare issues in sport at NTU

• Assess and develop mental health and wellbeing support provisions in collaboration with NTSU's VP Sport

• Make changes and take action on behalf of students who participate in sport

• Undergo consent and consent facilitator training, and co-lead occasional consent training sessions to sports clubs

 • Help create wellbeing events to increase awareness of issues affecting engage members of the sporting community

2. Publicity & Marketing Officer

The Marketing Officer helps to promote sports clubs and their activities to NTU students. You will also cover topics and discussions surrounding charity, events, and fundraising.

In this role, you will

• Keep up-to-date with sports club activities (including charity, fundraising and volunteering) and promote them across NTU Sport social media channels

• Carry out VP Sports and NTSU social media channel takeovers 

• To assists clubs with increasing engagement through their communications channels

• Make changes and take action on behalf of students who participate in sport

3. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer

This officer will help identify gaps within sport and initiate discussions on improving diversity, equality and inclusion.

In this role, you will

• Contribute to making sports at NTU more inclusive and aim to engage difficult to reach groups and inactive students

• Represent diverse student groups to help ensure sporting opportunities are equal and accessible to all

• Be familiar with practice in inclusive behaviours and identify gaps for improvement within sport

• Make changes and take action on behalf of students who participate in sport

4. Postgraduate Officer

The Postgraduate Officer helps represent postgraduate students' sporting needs and works to increase their participation.

In this role, you will

• Help make sports at NTU more accessible for postgraduate students

• Be a voice for postgraduate students, representing their needs within sport

• Liaise with postgraduates to explore how we can improve sports onboarding for them in September and January

5. Events Officer

The Events Officer will aid the development and delivery of events based on the interests of the sports club membership.

In this role, you will

• Help to express students' voices and interests 

• Aid the development and delivery of events to maximise sports club members' engagement

• Make changes and take action on behalf of students who participate in sport

6. Brackenhurst Officer

The Brackenhurst Officer helps represent Brackenhurst students' sporting needs and works to increase their participation.

In this role, you will

• Contribute to making sports at NTU more accessible for Brackenhurst students 

• Be a voice for Brackenhurst students, representing their needs within sport

• Liaise with Brackenhurst students to explore how we can improve the sports offer on campus

Selection process

Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in late October.
