NTSU's Board is chaired by NTSU President Jess Walker. They safeguard the vision and values of the Union, establish the organisation's strategic direction, and ensure it meets the needs of its members.
Our trustees ensure NTSU strives for good operational practice and review and monitor the organisation's performance and progress towards its objectives. In addition, the trustees ensure the organisation works within its charitable purpose and complying with its governing document at all times.
Every trustee is responsible for this. Even if specific tasks are done by individual trustees, employees or volunteers, all trustees are responsible.
Each trustee has their own experiences that collectively help the Board to carry out its role. They are all equal in terms of responsibility and fall into three categories:
Jess Walker serves as President of the Nottingham Trent Students’ Union (NTSU), starting her term in July 2024. Previously, she was Vice President Education, where she worked on improving student support and academic standards. Her role as President involves managing relationships between NTSU, the university, and the local Nottingham community, including chairing the NTSU’s Board of Trustees and being a member of the Board of Governors at NTU.
Olivia Brooks, re-elected as VP Community and Welfare, focuses on student wellbeing, equality, diversity, and sustainability. She leads various campaigns and sits on several committees to enhance student life and safety.
Libby Sinclair, elected as VP Education in July 2024, represents students' academic needs, and strives to enhance the student experience. She attends various university boards and committees to ensure students' voices are heard.
Mollie Vadher, serving as VP Postgraduate since July 2024, focuses on enhancing the experience and academic representation of postgraduate, international, and doctoral students.
Jasmine Gaunt was elected as NTSU's VP Opportunities, taking office in July 2023. She sits on various boards and committees at the University, and her role focuses on supporting societies and providing opportunities within NTSU to the wider student population.
During her time at NTU, Jasmine has had various achievements and engaged in many extra-curricular activities alongside her studies, some of her highlights are:
Jasmine is set to complete her undergraduate studies in August 2023
Jasmyn Smith was elected as VP Sport in July 2024. She collaborates with NTSU and NTU Sport to enhance the student sporting experience, drawing on her extensive involvement in sports during her time at NTU.
Hello! I'm a first-year, soon-to-be second-year Accounting and Finance student with aspirations of working in data analysis. I decided to become a student trustee to create a lasting, positive impact within our community. My passion for sports, including boxing and swimming, fuels my dedication to discipline and perseverance. I am committed to using my skills and interests to contribute to our board's initiatives. My goal is to foster a more inclusive and dynamic campus community, where every student feels heard and valued. With a keen eye for detail and a heart set on progress, I am excited to bring a fresh perspective and drive meaningful change.
Nikita is a student studying Politics and International Relations. He works in the School of Social Sciences and has an interest in examining the policymaking process at the foreign and domestic level.
Nikita began his engagement with NTSU in his first year of study. Working as a Course Representative, Nikita attended School Forum meetings, Course Committee's, alongside termly NTSU Union Meetings, making sure that student voice is represented front and centre. Nikita became a student trustee at the end of his first year, formally accepting the position in June 2024.
Nikita had this to say following his appointment to the trustee board: "It is a great honour to be asked to join the Board of Trustees. I'm very excited to be a part of the NTSU family and I cannot wait to officially start working in this role this coming autumn!
I've completed my training for the position, and I've already observed one trustee board meeting. Student voice and diversity are one of the core pillars of NTSU and I promise to safeguard these principles whenever we vote on any motion at the Board or Committe level.

Student Choice Awards, all of which are influenced by students.
We're driven by our mission to empower the 40,000 students we represent. Our goal is to make Nottingham Trent University the best academic and personal experience for themselves and others.
By working for us, you will be joining a talented and committed staff and officer team, and a Students’ Union with an outstanding relationship with Nottingham Trent University, which the QAA has previously identified as a model of good practice.
Our current permanent and full-time vacancies are listed below. If you're interested in applying for a role, please read our recruitment pack to learn more about working for us.
Please note: any closing or interview dates should be treated as a guide. We reserve the right to close a vacancy or change interview dates once we have received sufficient applications, so we advise you to submit your application as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
As an Equal Opportunities and Disability Confident Employer, NTSU welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates including those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups and disabled candidates. We also welcome applications from members of the LGBTQ+ community and encourage inclusivity in the workplace.
We pride ourselves on having a positive, proactive, and informed attitude to accessibility and strive to provide the best possible experience on-campus and online for all our members.
Here's an overview of recent work we have carried out to improve accessibility regarding our venues and services. We continuously review our processes and improve our facilities to allow for better inclusivity. If you have any suggestions or comments, please get in touch.
We offer a wide range of accessibility and language support tools via the Recite Me accessibility tool found at the top of our website. This tool supports the 20% of the population who may encounter barriers when exploring our website due to a disability, learning difficulty, visually impartment, or if English is their second language.
The assistive toolbar includes screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, customisable styling options, and on-demand live translation.
NTSU is accessible with lift access and/or ramps across all floors on campuses with multiple floors and levels at Clifton and City. There are also accessible toilets across all three of our buildings at City, Clifton and Brackenhurst.
You can find the full accessibility details of our spaces here via AccessAble. The stage spaces at Clifton and City are currently stair access only.
You can also view online maps, floor plans and route planners through the MazeMap App on Google Play, Apple App Store or online:
Clifton Students' Union – The Point/Benenson & DH Lawrence
Brackenhurst Students' Union – Main Hall
Our venues have accessible toilets. You can find the full breakdown of locations on Maze Maps and AccessAble.
Some of these in our bar and nightclub spaces are RADAR key locked. Venue management or security staff will be able to give you access if required.
The network is a community of students who come together to share experiences as disabled students and organise events and campaigns designed to improve the university experience of the students in their demographic.
Staff and Security teams are trained and on hand for assistance in emergency or first aid incidents. City and Clifton venues include refuge points with communication links on the first floor upwards. They also include evacuation chairs which trained Staff and Security teams can use if immediate evacuation is required. (These should only be used by trained staff.)
Events in our venues include strobe lighting and other lighting and haze-based effects.
We also hire our venues out to other users and promoters who may have their own production effects outside our control. Please contact us at the earliest opportunity if you would like any guidance regarding a specific event.
We appreciate that there is always more to be achieved to ensure a truly accessible and equitable online and on-campus offer for all students. Therefore, if there is something you think could be improved or you have any issues, please reach out to us in person, through our socials or via email.
NTSU is committed to creating diverse communities of fulfilled students motivated to create positive change. To help us reach this goal, we are proud members of Student Life Pulse, an online survey used by Students’ Unions across the UK, representing the views of over 20,000 students each year.
Student Life Pulse is an insight survey which tracks the experience of our students throughout the academic year. Between October and June, you will receive an email inviting you to take part by completing the online survey. You will only receive the invite in one month so make sure you take the opportunity to give your views and have your voice heard.
We want to hear from as many students as possible, whatever their experience or knowledge of the Students’ Union is - every view matters.
We know your time is valuable and that’s why students who take part will be up for the chance to win one of 5 £100 vouchers available throughout the year as a thank you for taking part. If you’re one of the lucky winners, you can choose from an Amazon, Tesco, Love2Shop or NTSU commerical outlet voucher.
Student Life Pulse helps us plan the services and support we offer you. Every student who takes part is helping to improve the university experience for themselves and other students.
Alterline, an independent research agency, is our partner for this survey. Alterline follows all guidelines for data privacy and security. It only has enough information about you to conduct the research. Any information you disclose will be treated in the strictest confidence, and the results are anonymised, so no answers are attributable to any individuals. You can read their General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) policy here.
If you have any questions about the research, please email NTSU's Director of Membership Services, Hannah Templeman.
