Bradley Fox President

With the academic year almost at an end, we wanted to take the opportunity to update you on the progress we’ve been making on your Big Ideas.

NTSU’s Big Ideas scheme allows you to submit ideas for changes you’d like to see at the University or Students’ Union and we’ve put a lot of yours into practice this year, including:

  • First aid training for students – we held a number of successful first aid sessions with plans to roll the programme out to even more students next year.
  • End of year food donation – Liv, your VP Community and Welfare, has been collecting Food Bank donations through the year.
  • More vegan/ gluten free food on campus – NTU’s canteens and cafes have increased their vegan offering based on your feedback.
  • More vending machines with card readers – the SU worked alongside the library to intall vending machines with card readers in Boots Library earlier this year.
  • Reduce water usage at Brackenhurst – after we fed this back to the University, sensory taps are being installed as well as a new irrigation system on the cricket pitch to save water.
  • Improve mental health awareness at Clifton – Liv has introduced Mental Health Champions across all three campuses and NTU have plans to move their Student Support Services to a more central location on campus.

There are also a number of Big Ideas we’re making progress with:

  • Communal charging points
  • Library room and study table booking service
  • Better music in Brack Bar
  • Student cards on mobile device
  • Hearing aid batteries from the Health Centre
  • Pen bins for recycling writing equipment
  • Lockers at Clifton Campus

We’ll keep you up to date with them over on our social media channels so make sure you follow us to find out more.
