NTSU Strategy 2026–2031

Our new five-year strategy sets out how we'll work to improve the student experience at NTU, putting student voices, communities and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. It's our plan for making sure every student has the opportunity to shape change, find their place and access the support they need to thrive.

Helping every student feel heard, connected and supported.

Three priorities turn that promise into action.

Our organisation's ABCs

Our strategy is built around three priorities that will shape everything we do over the next five years.

A — Advocacy

Ensuring students are heard, represented and able to make change happen.

We want every student to understand their rights, feel confident speaking up and know how to influence decisions that affect them.

We'll make it easier to raise issues, strengthen student representation and use student feedback to drive meaningful change.

What this means for you

You'll know who represents you, how to have your say and where your voice has made a difference.

B — Belonging

Ensuring students feel part of a community where they matter.

We want every student to feel welcome, find meaningful connections and have opportunities to get involved in university life.

We'll create inclusive opportunities to meet people, build friendships and develop communities across courses, campuses and beyond.

What this means for you

You'll feel welcome, connected and able to be yourself, with opportunities to build friendships and make the most of your time at NTU.

C — Care

Ensuring students experience fairness, support and the right conditions to thrive.

We want every student to know where to find help and feel confident accessing support when they need it.

We'll work to remove barriers, improve access to support and make sure students are treated fairly and consistently.

What this means for you

You'll know where to turn for help, feel supported and respected, and have fair opportunities to take part.

Priorities are promises. How will we know they're working?

What does success look like?

Our strategy isn't just about what we plan to do. It's about the difference students actually experience.

  • Advocacy

Students feel confident raising issues and can see real change.

  • Belonging

More students feel connected and included.

  • Care

Support is easier to access, fair and reliable.

Ultimately, we want students to leave NTU feeling confident, capable and ready for their future.

These goals weren't set by us alone.

Built with students, for students

Our new strategy has been shaped by the experiences, feedback and priorities of NTU students.

Throughout its development, we've listened to students across all campuses to understand what matters most, what needs to improve and what they expect from their Students' Union.

This has brought together feedback and insight from a wide range of activities, including:

  1. 2025

    Listening to students

Planning, surveying students and gathering feedback across campuses to understand their priorities and experiences.

  2. Everyday conversations

Thousands of individual conversations with students through our everyday work and engagement.

  3. All-student survey

An all-student survey gathering views and experiences from across NTU.

  4. Early 2026

    Shaping the strategy

Reviewing the findings, identifying common themes and developing our priorities through workshops, consultation and collaboration.

  5. EDI focus groups

EDI focus groups to understand the experiences and challenges faced by different student communities.

  6. Collaboration events

Student and staff collaboration events to explore priorities and shape our future direction.

  7. Mid-2026

    Finalising our direction

Refining and approving the strategy, followed by preparations to put it into practice.

  8. Union meetings

Union meetings bringing together student representatives, officers, staff and trustees.

We've also worked closely with Nottingham Trent University throughout the development process to ensure our strategies complement one another and reflect shared student priorities.

Our priorities set out what we want to achieve. Our values guide how we make decisions, work with students and deliver on those commitments.

Student-led

Students shape our priorities and decisions.

Inclusive

We create opportunities and spaces where everyone can take part.

Supportive

We act with care, consistency and respect.

Innovative

We test, learn and continually improve what we do.

We don't do this on our own, either.
