Have your say on the future of the East Midlands

Tuesday 20-12-2022 - 14:23

Did you know—Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire County, Derby City, and Derbyshire County Councils have entered into a $1.14bn devolution deal with the Government?

The proposal (currently at the draft stage) is intended to grant more funding and local decision-making power to the East Midlands. This funding and power would be handled by a new entity called the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA), including an elected Mayor.

And you can have your say on the proposal's priorities before it goes ahead.

The objectives of the proposed East Midlands devolution are:

  • Boosting productivity, pay, jobs and living standards
  • Spreading opportunities and improving public services
  • Restoring a sense of community, local pride and belonging
  • Empowering local leaders and communities

The draft proposal is based on four priorities:

  • Our homes
  • Our skills
  • Our transport
  • Our carbon emissions/net zero ambition

The four councils are conducting a public consultation to hear the views of anyone living in the local area (including you) before finalising the proposal.

Any decisions made regarding the devolution will affect the local area for decades. So we think it's crucial for you to have your say before the consultation closes on Monday 9th January. Sharing your thoughts will ensure the views of students and young people are heard before the proposal is finalised.
