What a great term it’s been

Friday 15-12-2023 - 09:00

As we look back on all the fantastic work NTSU has achieved this first term, we wanted to say a huge thank you to YOU, our students, for reaching out, having fun, and taking part in all your Students’ Union has to offer.

Here’s a highlight of everything we’ve been up to…

Freshers’ 2023 was a big one. We had a total of 15,695 students in total across all our campuses, with breaking records at City campus. From huge brands like Megabus and Domino’s, we started term with a huge hit.

It seems you partied all night this term. With District on a Saturday and The Social on a Wednesday, Trent Events brought out all the bangers this term. You can keep up to date with all your favourite events at NTSU on the Trent Events website and buy your tickets.

Our societies have held numerous events from Ocean Clothes Swaps with Fashion Society to trips all over the UK with Zoo Society. NTU Law society hosted another successful networking dinner with over 50 legal professionals and over 100 law students. And that’s not all. Islamic Society held their charity week in October, raising money and awareness for Islamic Relief, and BSL Society hosted a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer support raising over £150. If you didn’t join a society this term, you still can next term. We have over 100 available for you to be a part of. From drama to cocktail making, knitting to hula hooping, there’s something for everyone.

Your executive officers have also made a huge start to their reign…

Hosted by your VP Opportunities and VP Sport, Trent’s Got Talent made a comeback after 7 years. The sold-out show saw musicians, pole-dancers, rappers and even comedy acts that amused over 320 audience members and celebrated students at NTU. Thank you to all our performers and congratulations to KPOP Society on the win.

By successfully adopting the new academic representation system, your VP Education and VP Postgrad successfully inducted 550 course reps and school officers with an increase in student engagement and representation. If you want to improve your course, gain employability skills and leave your mark at NTSU, you can sign up to become a Course Rep in January.

Man Down, was launched by your VP Community & Welfare to raise awareness for Men’s Mental Health. With a series of events from campus fairs to boxing sessions, the campaign was able to create meaningful and engaging spaces to ensure that our male students are receiving the support and care they need to lead healthy lives.

And there’s more behind the scenes…

At NTSU we have a focus on sustainability and this term we kicked it off with an £800 Sustainability Support Fund for NTSU societies to deliver sustainable activities in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our launch of a Sustainability Reps Programme saw 20 students signed up across all our campuses, we had 357 students complete our SOS-UK Skills Sustainability Survey and over 25 students attended sustainability focus groups to share their thoughts on what it means to live a sustainable lifestyle at NTSU. Find out more about our sustainability initiatives here and get involved.

If you’re looking for support next term, we’ve got you. This term we have had a record number of students trained to actively support their fellow students and give you the chance to talk to someone who can relate. Whether you are facing discrimination or stressed about exams, our peer support advisors are here to help you.

Goodbye for now

With your Students’ Union Elections coming soon and Varsity 2024 (p.s. grab your Ice Hocket tickets now ), term 2 will bring you adventure and action-packed entertainment.

We wish you all happy holidays and look forward to seeing you next term.

Your President,
Anna O’Hara.
