With the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement there has been unprecedented levels of public and institutional attention on systematic racism. Conversations on race can be difficult and uncomfortable but if we're not willing to name and discuss problems we cannot seek to solve them.
This workshop will encourage attendees to explore and understand their racial/cultural identity and privileges as a foundation to identifying barriers to conversations on race, the realities and fear of risks and consequences, identifying solutions and equipping attendees with tools to both have and facilitate conversations on race and racism.
The barriers and challenges faced by groups will differ and so will solutions to these. It is important to recognise these differences in the barriers and challenges faced in order to overcome the discomfort of talking about race so that can continue to tackle racism, together.
