FareShare has a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to participate in the Tesco Neighbourhood Food Collection, taking place in Tesco stores around the country on the 27th, 28th and 29th of November.
FareShare fights hunger and its underlying causes by redistributing surplus food to over 1,700 charities across the UK. We turn an environmental problem into a solution, by ensuring good food is not wasted and instead helps feed thousands of vulnerable people. Previously, the event alone has provided charities we support with over 400 tonnes of long life varied food. The presence of enthusiastic volunteers in stores really makes a huge difference, playing a vital role in making this event a huge success.
Volunteers will be greeting customers and asking them to donate long life products like rice, pasta and tea and coffee, as these items rarely become surplus. This food will be combined with the surplus, fresh produce we receive daily from the food industry and will be redistributed to the charities we support. Previous volunteers have really enjoyed the food collection; it’s great fun and very sociable, and all for a good cause. The shifts last three hours and you can sign up individually or as a group.
