Foodprint the social supermarket

Food waste and food poverty should not coexist. In Nottingham alone, a third of children live under the food poverty line, and so Foodprint was created, Nottingham's first social supermarket. They are are a social enterprise started by students at the University of Nottingham, acting as an intermediary between supermarkets, wholesalers, charities, and the people of Nottingham. They take the food that would otherwise go to waste but is still perfectly fit for consumption, and redistribute it to those in need. The surplus food comes to our social supermarket in Sneinton, where we sell it at greatly reduced prices, and this store is run by our amazing volunteers.

This year, for Student Volunteering Week, they would like to increase their volunteering team, in the hope to increase our shop opening hours. On Wednesday 13th February we are opening our shop doors to students who are passionate about what we do and are interested in how they can get involved. We will hold a presentation followed by an induction to working in the shop, and after this all students who attend will be able to volunteer as little or as much as they want! There will be opportunities to sign up to weekly four-hour shifts, or alternatively, students can work on an occasional basis, working shifts as and when is convenient. During shifts, tasks will include operating the till, processing crates of food that get delivered, opening and closing the shop, and chatting to customers. The volunteers are vital to what we do at Foodprint and we value their work immensely, so if you have an interested in tackling food poverty and food waste, then please do come along!
