Want to help make a difference to a child in need this Christmas?

We are looking for volunteers to get involved with Operation Christmas Child, a project which aims to show love to disadvantaged children across the world.

It is organised by Samaritan’s Purse, a christian charity that has delivered shoe boxes full of gifts to more than 157 million children from 160 different countries since it first started in 1990.

Operation Christmas Child exists to let children in need around the world know that they are not forgotten and they are loved. In the spirit of Christmas, millions of shoebox gifts are delivered each year to children suffering from poverty, natural disaster, war, terror, disease and famine, many of whom have never received a gift in their life.

This project is ran a christian charity, so where appropriate, children receiving gift-filled shoeboxes are also offered a copy of The Greatest Gift booklet. This booklet gives children the opportunity to learn more about Jesus and Christmas, just like we do here through nativity plays, carol concerts and the like.

Here’s how you can get involved:

Fundraise
Tuesday 6th November, City SU
We need friendly, enthusiastic students who are happy talking to the public to collect money. This money will go towards helping to buy the contents for the shoe boxes.

Shop 

Meet us at the Newton steps on Friday 9th November at 4pm to shop for the gifts.

Donate
You can also donate items to the Students’ Union receptions. Click here to find out which items are accepted.

Pack boxes
Monday 12th November, City SU Mezz, 2pm - 5pm
Once all the presents have been purchased, we’ll need your help to pack them into shoeboxes and label them correctly before they’re sent off to children in need around the world.

Ideally you will be available on the dates listed above but if you aren't please let us know on the form when booking your ticket.
