Mark this year’s Transgender Day of Remembrance on Monday 20th November with NTSU.
Started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith, the day reflects on the passing of transgender people internationally and is traditionally marked by vigils across the world.
Between 1st October 2022 and 30th September 2023, the site Remembering Our Dead* has recorded 336 transgender deaths in that period, inclusive of deaths in the United Kingdom. And with high-profile deaths among the young transgender community in the recent year it is more important that ever to come together and mark the memory of those we have lost.
Join us in the Loft to make different items that you can take with you to local vigils or make something personal to commemorate transgender people we have tragically lost across recent times and through history.
This event is free and open to all students. Items for crafts will be provided. The Loft is accessible by lift and is a quiet space, but if you need help accessing the event please get in touch.
*Please note this site contains descriptions of death, violence and transphobia.
