Education society AGM

Kaci (president):

So we currently. Well, last time I looked which about a week ago we had 162 members.
We've hosted 12 events and 13 oceans. I've put some of our favourite events on here, which is obviously boat ball, which we all seem to love and enjoy.
This boat ball was summer. We've held a Christmas boatball since then and we are very soon to announce the tickets for our next one. We also have our awards night which again I really enjoyed last year and we'll be doing that again this year.

Beth (vice president):

The phones are looking good. We're on a positive. We started last year on like 300 pounds.
And then we got a lot of money from soft play. Our most recent event, but we did lose a little bit of money from that. The tickets cost us 395, so we ended up losing a tiny bit of money based fine, like kaci said, we've got 162 members. So it'll be 3 pounds actually and that's it's £189.
I want to try and finish the year on 900 pounds so we can start.
And then next year, we need to consider a bit more, having more free events like our SIP and paint. We charged that and that was a free event, but maybe more considerations and if we can reduce prices. So maybe if we do soft play next year, can we do tickets for like 5 pounds and just take that out of our money so.
We lose a bit of money, but then our Members do more events and more free events.

Ben(sports-coordinator):
For the Sports 6 aside, teams been running again this year on Friday nights
In the top division, it's also when feel good Fridays take place, so it's good to see so many people turning up either to play or support.
We've also hosted pub golf this year, which had around 50 people, so it was one of our biggest events this year.
And sports day that we did last year is currently being planned again for this year, which is a non drinking event for everyone that asked for more non drinking events, but also for you  like a drink, there's going to be a bar crawl afterwards again

and then for education society is sponsored, one of our members in their upcoming boxing match on the Wilder Nights card raising money for oddballs charity.
So we wish them the best of luck, and I'm sure he's going to win.

Amelie (well-being) :
So in terms of well-being this year, I think we have done quite well trying to implement a lot of events, but it is quite challenging because I suppose well-being events do kind of consist of sober events, which obviously don't go down as well as drinking ones do naturally. But we did a well-being walk at Willerton, which was nice and we have done feel good Fridays too, which have been great and.
The boys did Movember as well, and I think they said they raised over 300 lbs for that, so that is good and hopefully next year we can try and implement some more sober events, and I think once everyone gets to know each other a little bit better. Obviously it's quite daunting doing sober events with people you don't really know. So I think that by next year, everyone will know each other a lot better. So I'm hoping the turn out for sober events will be a lot better.

Sam (events coordinator):

Ive been events coordinator. So it's just kind of to lead on from the fact that we've obviously had a lot of drinking events and we've also had lots of sober events. I think, like you said next year, it would be nice to probably see some more sober events, but we've had a very successful year and I hope that there's been a good range for everyone that has been.
Enjoyed and if anyone has any suggestions, we're always open to doing new things. We've obviously done sip and paint that was really good. We did pottery painting last year, so I'm sure people will be up for that sort of thing again that the creative side of things.
And then obviously we've got sports things coming up and bet ball and things. So we've had a really lovely year and it's been nice to get to know lots of new faces.

Kaci (president):

so now we are moving on to our committee candidates for 2526. Obviously a bit weird that we're talking about this now, considering they won't come into play until September, but lets get into it. So First off is me. So I'm the only person running for president.

So as the current President of Education society, there's nothing I would love more than to continue this role throughout my last year of university. So from restarting this society with my two best friends, Beth and Macy, we came runners up in the Ntsu Awards.

and that we've hosted so many amazing events this year that has more than shaped my whole university experience. And I would love to lead a new committee as I experienced the fun of it, as well as supporting them through the more stressful times. If you have enjoyed your entire part of Edsoc and would love to continue that for the rest of your experience, then choose the right committee to lead you through. So basically, I've just absolutely adored being the President, and I may have done a little bit too much work.
Sometimes may have taken over too many of the roles, so next year I think I would like to continue my Presidency, but also like, let go of the reins a little bit and let them be more join in with the fun of running a society.

Beth (vice president):
So I will read out my manifesto as well. So as the current vice President, I have helped education society grow and develop and manage the funds and track these. And I'd like to continue it. It's got lots of potential and like I said, organising more free events using our funds a bit more realistically for students.
Will be a good cause and maybe an Ed stock trip if people are wanting to.
The members are the of the society are my priority and supporting you all in academic matters. In education is a priority and supporting the President and committee to make sure everything is perfect, so helping kaci distribute out roles and helping her retrain our new committee in the New Year.
And just creating an inclusive and well, be welcoming society and having a lovely community. And it's been a pleasure.

Kaci (president):
So we have three people running for Social Security, but there is only two positions,

Em(running for social sec):
So I'll read out my manifesto first, so I'm excited to run one of the social secretaries for education and society. I currently do special education and over the past 2 1/2 years I've been a regular ocean Wednesdays and I truly believe that bringing a sense of community and fun to our year is essential.
For having a fun and passionate society, I'm also passionate about creating engaging events that bring people together.
I wanna make it clear that not just drinking events, I wanna do other things as well, but obviously ocean to making sure that we balance work and fun throughout the year.
My attendance at Ocean has given me insights into how to organise the bar pool and I'm committed to ensuring our social calendar is full of events that everyone will love and I'm open to suggestions as well.

Cam (running for social sec):
I just want to say hi first.
And well done to everyone who's, like, been like, committed this year. It's been really good this year.
And my manifesto says, and I'd like to apply for the role of social sec. I believe I'll be very good at integrating everyone together in society, whether they're a fresher or a fourth year. Our plan to I would plan events with great care and that everyone would enjoy as there's two roles that social SEC. I feel like I've thrive with working with my partner and every possible aspect, whether it's through clear communication or delegating different roles.
In terms of risk assessment, my course being primary education means I need to carry out risk assessments on each lesson I plan, so this is something I have experience in. Obviously with this being a social set obviously. Obviously with this being a social role is part of that. I'm confident in communicating with people whilst being approachable too. I think this is one of my strongest traits as a person.

and I'm sure that I would and I'll show the people know you would agree love from hopefully a new social SEC. So yeah, that's my manifesto. If anyone wants to ask me any questions, I'm happy with that as well. So yeah, hope to see you all next year.

Angel (running for social sec):

Right. I just going to, I'm just going to back what Cam said and thank you for a good society this year. I've loved all the oceans I've been to. I haven't been to any of the other socials, but I'm sure they've been great.
My manifesto reads. I want to make Ed Sock a button and welcoming committee where everyone feels part of one big friendship group as social sex, as social SEC. Our plan and organise events from start to finish, making sure there's something for everyone to enjoy. I want our events to be fun and memorable, and I'll do my best to make sure no one feels left out. I'll also make sure that everything's well organised and supported to run events smoothly.
And after having a taste at being a step in social SEC at times, I'm excited to dive right in and help this year be as amazing as last year for the entire society.

Kaci (president):
We had a few questions on our form.
Such as will there be more non drinking activities? So yes, this year going forward I've been looking into like planet bounce we've got hopefully quiz night coming up as Sam stated earlier we did pottery painting last year. So maybe we're going to look into doing that again because we've got a few months left. So I think we might as well do some more events especially when we get our student loans in April, I think it'll be quite nice to do something then what kind of activities can we expect for the rest of the year? Again, just mention that as well a few little things here and there that we're going to get planning future plans, so future plans.
Are going to change because obviously we're going to have a new committee coming in. Me and Beth obviously have experience from last year, but we're excited to have some new opinions, some new voices and some new ideas come into play.

Ryan (social-sec) :
Anyway guys, it's been really lovely getting to meet all of you. Obviously it is my final year.
But I feel like the memories I've had at Ocean last year, this year, the year before this year's, probably like, stood out to me the most, just getting to meet like all of you. Second years, all great people, all third years, everyone from different courses, all coming together. It's just been really special. So thank you for making my final year so good.

Kaci (president):

OK. Well, thanks. Thanks everyone for joining.
