Inside the mind on LSD. A tool for therapy?

The Nottingham Trent Pharmacology Society are pleased to announce our first and very special guest speaker, Dr Robin Carhart-Harris. Dr Carhart-Harris is a world renowned psychopharmacologist who is one of the first scientists in the UK in 40 years to permitted to conduct research into the action of psychedelic drugs on human brain action and psychology. His cutting edge research using Functional magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography combined with psychological assessments have given great insight into the way that these compounds can induce altered states of consciousness.

His lecture will focus on his current research into the action of the classic psychedelic, LSD. Using brain imaging scans of human subjects Dr Carhart-Harris will discuss how LSD interacts with the mind and creates the changes in consciousness and perception that are produced after ingestion. Future clinical applications and current studies into LSD-assisted psychotherapy such as treatment for the anxiety felt by terminal cancer patients will be discussed. This is not an opportunity to be missed, especially by those with interests in psychology, pharmacology, neuroscience or biochemistry.

The lecture will take place on the 4th of may at 3.00pm at the Bass management centre (BTS329) in the city site.
We look forward to seeing you there!
